Pregnant Worker Risk Assessment

As an employer, here’s what you need to know about Pregnant Worker Risk Assessments.

When to Do a Pregnant Worker Risk Assessment: When your employee tells you they are pregnant and review the assessment when their physical capabilities change.

What Does The Pregnant Worker Risk Assessment Look At: It considers the persons job and the impact it could have on the unborn foetus.  Control measures need to be put in place to minimise risks to the pregnant worker and to the unborn foetus.

How Do I Identify Risks?: By considering every aspect of the pregnant workers job.  Do they lift, carry, bend down, stand all day?  All these have a physical impact on a pregnant worker and alternative arrangements will have to be made.  This may involve changing a persons job for the duration of the pregnancy.

What Other Factors Do I consider?: Chemicals and biological agents all have potential for damaging the unborn foetus therefore the pregnant worker risk assessment must include these hazards.

What Do I Do With The Assessment: Agree the control measures you have decided on with the pregnant worker, both sign the assessment and give a copy to the pregnant worker.
